Pav bhaji recipe is one of the most famous street food that you get to eat in Mumbai. Before if you go to Mumbai you get to see Pav Bhaji stalls in every nook & corner. But now even though it is scarce to see so widely but the authentic pav bhaji taste is still only available in Mumbai. Nowadays Vada pav has crowded out Pav Bhaji in the streets but still eating it has a nostalgia of its own.
But still anyone who has been to Mumbai will never forget this taste. So for all the food lovers all there I bring to you an authentic and best mumbai pav bhaji which can be prepared at home. Lets see how to make Pav Bhaji recipe in detail.
Ingredients are :
- Finely chopped Onion - 2 big size
- Finely chopped tomato - 4 big size / 6 small ones
- Potato - 2 to 3 nos.
- Cauliflower - 1 cup
- Frozen green peas - 1 cup
- Capsicum - 1 cup
- Finely chopped green chilly - 2 nos.
- Butter - 75 to 100 gms
- Kashmiri red chilly powder - 2 tbsp
- Salt - to taste
- Ginger garlic paste - 1 tsp
- Lemon juice - 1 tbsp
- Pav bhaji masala - 2 tbsp
- Oil - 3 to 4 tbsp
- Coriander leaves - 1 cup
- Pav/bread - as required
Preparation Method
First to a pressure cooker add some water enough to cook potato and cauliflower. Put some salt to it and then add cook potato and cauliflower. Cook till 1 whistle. After that drain the water and take the cooked vegetables out. Smash the vegetables properly. (If you want to see how to smash just refer the video.) You can use a smasher to smash the vegetables. Smashing is the most important step because if not smashed the vegetables will stand out while eating.
Take a pan and heat it. Then add capsicum and green chilly to the pan and sauté for 1.5 min in high flame. After that add green peas to it. Sauté for 1 min in high flame and then add smashed potato and cauliflower to it. Mix well.
Then add tomato and a little salt to the same pan and saute for 5 to 6 min. To it add 45 gms butter, 1 tbsp pav bhaji masala and 1 tbsp kashmiri red chilly powder . Mix for 2 to 3 mins and transfer to a plate.
Then smash it thoroughly again. (You can see the smashing part in the video)
To the same pan add some oil and 20 gms butter. After that add chopped onion and saute till golden brown in medium flame. After that add coriander leaves to the pan and saute for 1 to 2 minutes. Then make space in the centre of the pan and add 25 gms butter. To the butter add 1 tbsp pav bhaji masala and 1 tbsp kashmiri red chilly powder. Mix well and add lemon juice and all the smashed vegetables. Then add 2–3 cups of water and let it boil till the required consistency.
Bhaji is best eaten in a thick consistency. So be sure to get the consistency right. Then transfer the bhaji to a plate.
Pav Preparation
Heat a frying pan. Now coat butter on both sides of Pav. You can either opt to rub the pav in bhaji and heat it up or heat it as such. After that you can eat the famous and delicious Authentic Mumbai Pav Bhaji at home.
To eat add raw chopped onions on the bhaji along with a little lemon juice. Mix it well an then dip pav in that masala and EAT IT TO YOUR HEARTS CONTENT. (You can watch the last part of video to see how to eat it.)
